Live performance remains an essential part of Michael's musical life, continually informing both his practice and his approach to teaching. Whether leading an ensemble, supporting a soloist, or collaborating with fellow musicians, every performance is an opportunity to explore the same ideas that shape his coaching: listening deeply, communicating clearly, and creating music that serves the moment.
Michael currently leads the Hot Club of Olde Town, plays with the much-anticipated revival of Gypsy Swing Revue, and the Western Swing band Odessa Rose, as well as a variety of swing, jazz, and ensembles throughout Colorado's Front Range. As a frequent guest guitarist, he enjoys collaborating with musicians across a wide range of styles, bringing a thoughtful, rhythm-driven approach to every performance.
From intimate wineries and concert series to festivals, swing dances, and private events, these performances continue to inspire his teaching while reinforcing a simple belief: the most meaningful musical growth happens not only in the practice room, but in the shared experience of making music together.
Hot Club of Olde Town is a Colorado-based swing ensemble celebrating the music and legacy of Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli, and the rich tradition of gypsy jazz and swing music. Led by guitarist Michael Isabell, the group performs for festivals, concert series, wineries, private events, weddings, and swing dances throughout Colorado's Front Range.
Born from Colorado's longest-running weekly swing jam at Silver Vines Winery in Olde Town Arvada, the ensemble brings together exceptional musicians who share a passion for expressive acoustic swing, thoughtful ensemble playing, and the joy of live performance. While the weekly jam continues to welcome musicians, dancers, and listeners alike, Hot Club of Olde Town has grown into a polished performing group with a deep and ever-evolving repertoire.
